Membership into the Order
There has been approximately 400 members of the Order from all around the world and many other groups have even founded their own orders, based on our teaching. Many of our Order run a local Temple and hold meetings, while some others still prefer to work as solitaries.
We are the oldest Order of the this particular form of Traditional Witchcraft in the world. Our teaching has opened up from the original personal Temples and then took on students in the form of mail order. The numbers became so large that it was impossible to personally teach each and every student on a personal basis. Tony Steele, who is counted among the very small list of "accepted" Traditional writers then wrote a book, the first such expose of such an old Order, to show to the world the first three degrees of this particular ancient form of witchcraft.
The book is published by CAPALL BANN PUBLISHING and the title is :
"The rites and Rituals of Traditional Witchcraft" by Tony Steele
Anyone wishing to study this form of witchcraft can purchase this book and can work alone up until the 3rd Degree (of Seven Degrees). One has to become a member to take the Fourth Degree upwards. However, in saying this, we point out that the initial training is particularly demanding, both in mental and physical ways. The journey one takes in following this form of Traditional Witchcraft causes many exciting and magickal happenings to occur and the presence of the Ancient Powers can be quite overwhelming for many and why it is recommended that one joins the Order as a full member.
In becoming a member, you will be personally coached at all times for every step of the way. As this takes time and a great deal of effort, we have had to set a nominal (but reasonable) fee to actually become a member.
The fees were set by the elders of the Order a very long time ago when it first opened its doors up a little more to the public. This generally pays for the Grand Temple business and the masses of paperwork generated from there and all ancillary postage costs.
The fee is now only a 'one time' fee for Life Membership and certainly doesn’t cover all our expenses, but certainly helps. It is also one of the main reasons we do more personal tutoring by email now.
By joining the Order as a full member you have access to the Temple's data files and the Chief Instructor of the Order to personally assist members to go through the very tough steps of the first few degrees. The feedback stages of reporting one's progress to the Teacher is very critical if one wants to accomplish proper and lasting effects. The magickal journey requires that a Tutor be assigned to each member to help the student proceed safely and correctly.
The Order is definitely not a club whereby anyone
who wants to join is allowed in. The Temple groups’ that operate around
the world themselves naturally do not want just anyone coming in and are very
selective and operate separately and independently of each other. You can
understand the close bonding that arises within a group and a natural friendship
and love for one another, similar to a sister and brother arises over time and
any disruption to that would be catastrophic. However, we will aid and
assist all new solitary members to open their own Temples and practice in their
own areas whenver we can.
We are not in any race to finish any training quickly, as long as it is done
correctly, and the total numbers of members do not make any difference to us in
general at all. There are no separate membership fees and we simply chip
in if required at Temple meetings. Money is not and never will be a
consideration in the higher grades. Therefore, the idea of opening up (by way of
the internet) was originally to offer genuine seekers a chance to come to us and
we proffer a way to walk the ancient path, otherwise we continue harmoniously on
our own.
This sort of teaching can ONLY really come from a
"teacher", or "tutor", called a Mentor, as you become the
“Dedicant” in the first steps and the teaching is handed down accordingly,
as it has been for generations. It was the way I first learnt and have
since taught many over the years. You definitely cannot and will not get
the "real thing" from even the better books, including Tony Steel's
wonderful book. They can only hint at the ways and cannot fully explain
the unexplainable. It has to be "realized" from within, felt
deeply rather than merely read. It is a wonderful “inner journey”, (or
microcosm), otherworlds and mixing with the macrocosm and “what’s out
there”, and ultimately probably changes people’s lives – for the better.
The OAM has today priestesses who are initiates to the Ancient Powers and are
never laity. They are secretive in their undertakings and do not
proselytize, or spend constant hours, days and months simply and merely talking
about it on the net, or in little groups, when invariably no one is properly
qualified to discuss the subject in full anyway, and unless they are initiated
into a properly seeded coven, it can only be mere “supposition” on their
part anyway. It is a personal and very much a “participant doing”
activity and is of course, a way of life. The old way is “doing”
ritual, “doing” inner workings, “doing” magick, “doing” spiritual
ceremonies and “following actively” the wheel of the year. It is
“not” a talkers religion, it is a “doers” way of life.
