Golden Dawn etc. and Golden Dawn Tarot
Dear Azaz and all,
I should very much like to share some files, most of
them are readily available through the internet though
- so perhaps I should compile a set of links instead.
Anyhow, thank you for sharing a brief introduction to
the Golden Dawn. I'm really amaze that you've manage
to succinctly introduce the Golden Dawn in such a short
article. I enjoyed reading it.
I however would like to add that the Judeo-Christian
aspects of the Order are very vague, they play an
integral part though not necessarily a dominant
system in the order. Furthermore I think their system
lies more in hermetic understanding. I'm actually
surprised how 'pagan' many of them are, although I
doubt they would consider themselves as one, since
occult science transcends religious boundaries. I
would recall how Florence Farr's sphere group work
with this Egyptian priestess, and the Matherses
staging the Rite of Isis in Paris. And how various God
forms (energy) takes their position in
initiation/grade rituals.
If anyone has a chance to get hold of the book Women
of the Golden Dawn by Mary K. Greer - I would like to
recommend it. The book shed some insights on the
personal lives of four women who were involved in the
Golden Dawn. They are Maud Gonne, Moina Mathers,
Florence Farr, and Annie Hornieman. Why would I
recommend this book? Because no matter how many Golden
Dawn flying rolls and manuscripts you can get, nothing
beats understanding how the praxis is applied. The
book has some account of their magical workings, how
it is done - and truly helped me understand the whole
system better. It might be a bit of a feminist
literature, but on the whole it is a valuable book to
the workings of the order.
There is an excerpt of the book online: -

however it does not do justice to the magnitude of the
subjects covered in the book. So do please consider
this piece of literature.
I would also like to know if anyone uses the Golden
Dawn tarot deck and its divination techniques? That
was the deck I started out with, the Cicero version,
not the Robert Wang's. I used to do Opening of the
Keys and still does its 15 card spread although I'm
using the Nigel Jackson Tarot now. I should like to
discuss the dignified and ill-dignified details. Thoth
decks are similar too, I think although the
correspondence might differ a bit. I however do not
use my Thoth deck, only for display :P
